Wind instrumentalists, singers, and athletes from around the world depend on the lung capacity to improve their performance. A good lung capacity allows musicians to take large amount of air to be able to expel it during the performance or song. Get more oxygen improves endurance and can also improve brain health, raising its state of alert, reaction and exhaustion.
- Healthy lungs:
As to all have a good diet and avoid smoking, the lung tissues help capture more oxygen. A balanced diet rich in iron, vitamins E and C, carotene and other antioxidants promote lung health. We will avoid with a healthy diet to gain weight since this will hinder breathing deep and efficient. Drinking plenty of water will help dilute mucus from the lungs.
- Exercise:
Any exercise will help increase lung capacity, but above all aerobic activities of high intensity, like swimming, strengthen the heart and lungs, increases the supply of oxygen. The total amount taken during exercise improves with training by intervals, for example making a maximum effort during a short period of time and recovering with less strenuous exercise, making several repetitions.
- Deep breathing:
Breathe normally through the nose and mouth, with shallow breaths. The recommendation would be to concentrate throughout the day in the way we breathe. While at rest, make sure you breathe slowly and deeply through your nose, expanding the diaphragm and not the chest. This is an efficient way of breathing, using a regular pattern. Yoga is a great exercise that would help us musicians.
- To keep in mind:
Some exercises to increase the breath will require attention, lack of oxygen for a prolonged period may cause brain damage. If you perform exercises in apnea, exercises at high altitude,... sure use it and do it safely and in company
